How to Prepare for Your Permanent Makeup Appointment in Oakville

Set yourself up for smooth healing, great results, and a stress-free experience.

Getting permanent makeup is exciting—but proper prep is key to ensuring the best results and a comfortable appointment. Whether you’re booking powder brows, lip blush, or lash line enhancement at my Oakville studio, this guide will walk you through how to prepare your skin, body, and mind for the big day.

🧖‍♀️ Why Pre-Care Matters

Prepping properly reduces:

  • Sensitivity or discomfort during your session
  • Excess bleeding (which can push pigment out)
  • Risk of infection or irritation
  • Uneven healing or premature fading

It also helps me do my job better—so your results look flawless and last longer.

📅 1 Week Before Your Appointment

Avoid active skincare around the area
No retinols, AHAs, exfoliants, or harsh scrubs on the face/lips/eyes for at least 5–7 days. These can thin the skin and make it more sensitive.

No facials, peels, microneedling, or Botox
Hold off on these at least 1–2 weeks before PMU. They can affect skin texture and placement.

Start gently exfoliating (for lips)
If you’re getting lip blush, exfoliate your lips 2–3x that week with a soft scrub and hydrate daily with a lip balm like Aquaphor or Laneige.

🍷 24–48 Hours Before

Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and aspirin
These thin the blood and can cause more bleeding during tattooing, which may lead to poor pigment retention.

Skip the gym
No heavy sweating the day before or day of your appointment. Sweat and oils can interfere with pigment placement.

Hydrate + rest
Drink plenty of water and get a good night’s sleep. Your body heals best when it’s well-rested.

👁️ For Lash Line Enhancement Clients

👓 Wear glasses or bring a contact lens case + solution
If you wear contact lenses, you’ll need to remove them for your session. Bring a case and solution so you can take them out before and put them back in after the procedure.

💄 The Day of Your Appointment

Come with clean skin (no makeup)
Skip foundation, brow products, or mascara on the area being treated. I’ll prep your skin here, but coming makeup-free helps!

Eat a light meal beforehand
This helps prevent lightheadedness or nausea, especially during longer sessions.

Bring your inspiration, but trust the process
If you have reference photos or a desired colour, feel free to bring them—but know I’ll guide you based on your undertones, face shape, and natural features.

🚫 What NOT to Do Before PMU

  • Don’t come sunburned or freshly tanned
  • Don’t take ibuprofen or Advil (Tylenol is okay)
  • Don’t get your brows threaded or waxed
  • Don’t show up sick or with any skin flare-ups (we’ll need to reschedule)

🛋️ After You Arrive

I’ll go over everything with you again during your consultation. My Oakville space is calm, clean, and private—so you can relax and feel taken care of.

You’ll leave with:

  • Custom aftercare instructions
  • Answers to any remaining questions
  • Excitement for your healed results!
